Default SoJ vs Glads

Why would you pick one over the other? I'm having a hard time deciding.

75% of the time, Gladiators defense prevents the melee damage you receive. With shield of judgement, you still take the damage

But knocks them down, thus reducing the amount of damage you take.

Why not use both? Use Glad's then as it's running out use SoJ. By then you should have enough adren to use Bonetti's. Recharge the energy... throw in some other skills during Glad's... seems like a solid build.

(See, this is what I like, people thinking about stuff. Making new ideas. *grin*)

The reason not to use both would be that both are elite skills.
As for coosing one, I go with glads, as I haven't captured SoJ yet

Just kidding y'all!

It would make a very nice build for tanking
But if I had to choose between the two I'd choose
GLADS!!!

i would go with SoJ cos of the dmg output and the duration and also cos of my build, that 75% galds has dosen't to much for it :P

This is how i see it::

Shield of Judgement lasts 15-21 seconds, around 50~dmg to foe. Knocks down attacking target = less dmg intake from lowered enemy attk speed...

Gladiators Defence lasts 5-10 seconds, around 21-28~dmg to foe. Blocks 75% of taken hits, and only deals dmg when blocked...

These are numbers off the top of my head, but darn close, so is it REALLY that big of a debate!? i think not. and defense types average out to about equal taken dmg...enjoy

(For Solo)
With the AoE update, I overly prefer and recommend SoJ over GD. The KD keeps them in AoE smite longer, since they're on their ass once they hit you .

(For Team/Tank)
Teamwise, I'd still probably take SoJ over GD, unless you just couldn't put the points into smite. I've had several interrupts attributed to SoJ (wand, then start to cast -> kd kills the spell). Doesn't do it all the time, but it does it enough .

Shield of Judgement requires you to be hit, so if you're under the effects of Guardian or Aegis for example, SoJ has has less chance of triggering. Unlike Gladiator's Defense, enemies attacking from a range will suffer damage and be knocked over. But in order to deal damage you have to be taking damage.

However, using Guardian and Aegis increase the odds of Gladiator's Defense triggering against melee mobs. It's the opposite of SoJ, as in you won't be taking damage but rather dishing it out.

One is a stance, the other an enchantment. In high end areas, enchantment removal is always far more common than Wild Blow which as we know is the only method to end a stance.

How would you make up for the lack of being able to do that damage to ranged attacker then?

hmm SoJ with griffon farming that would look funny, i would take defensive stance if i ever needed to take a stance, it has a longer recharge time and you are slown down AND you are unable to use a skill (if you do then /slap). but atleast its not and elite. And its good for griffon farming (oops. soz), with the new update and all
